Hot Rods & Hamburgers

Built in 1949, the Bob’s Big Boy, just down the street from the Tangerine on Riverside Drive, is the oldest remaining Bob’s Big Boy in the US.  Designated a historical landmark, the building, designed by Wayne McAllister, is an excellent example of mid-century, Googie architecture.

It’s proximity to several Hollywood television and movie studios has made this location a favorite with the stars. In its heyday, regulars included Bob Hope, Debbie Reynolds, Jonathan Winters, Dana Andrews, Martha Raye, Alexis Smith and Craig Stevens. During their 1965 tour, the Beatles got their burger and shake fix at this location, and the booth where they sat is a popular tourist attraction.

Originally built as a drive-in, the restaurant is a perfect setting for the weekly classic car show, every Friday from 3-10pm. It’s a remarkable display of auto-history, with a huge array of custom hot rods, drag cars and street rods. Check it out!
